Visitors to Frankfurt will soon be made well aware of the city's status as a financial centre, with all those skyscrapers giving it a Manhattan-like appearance, but few could have imagined a bank being responsible for a major cultural event.

However, is exactly what is happening between October the 24th and November 13th 2007, when the European Central Bank (ECB) puts on its Culture Days annual celebration of the culture and heritage of one of the Eurozone countries.

Last year it was Austria, but this year Greece takes centre stage, meaning visitors staying in cheap hotels can enjoy the cultures of two European nations at the same time.

During the event, culture vultures will be able to enjoy music, theatre, literature and ancient Greek drama.

Particular highlights listed on the ECB website include the opening night concert performance of Axion Esti, a production of Prometheus Bound on November 8th and a grand closing concert by the Orchestra of Colours to finish the festival on the last night.
