Athens to showcase ancient relics Anyone looking to soak up some sunshine and culture could head to Athens this summer, which will offer visitors both in abundance.

The Museum of Cycladic Art may not be the first thought for British holidaymakers, but those looking for a fascinating exploration of ancient art may wish to consider it as a potential destination this summer.

Cycladic art is that of the Cycladic islands, a great deal of which features hand-carved figuring which were placed in burials some 4000 years ago.

The collection, which was gathered by Nicholas and Dolly Goulandris, who found the artefacts from the 1960s onwards, after receiving permission from the Greek State.

Between 1979 and 1984, the exhibition toured the world, featuring in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, the Museum of Western Art in Tokyo, the British Museum in London and the Grand Palais in Paris.

Art and artefact fans can book into one of the city's cheap hotels and view the exhibit at their leisure.
