Destroy Athens!

Visitors to the ancient city of Athens might be horrified at the thought of its destruction, but fear not - Destroy Athens is the title of the theme picked up on in the Athens Biennial, a contemporary art exhibition which looks to break down all the old stereotypes about the city.

Starting on September 10th and lasting until November 18th, the exhibition takes place mainly at the Technopolis, a living industrial museum, according to organisers, who also state that there will be other, smaller venues also housing artwork.

Visitors will not only be able to enjoy the artwork and find their concepts of Athens tweaked somewhat, but also be able to enjoy the city in its full glory.

Those staying in cheap hotels will be able to see the contrasts between old and new, from the historic ruins of the Acropolis and Parthenon to the modern Olympic city with its rapid transport, all linked by a rich culture, language and proximity to the sea that has spanned the ages.
