Head Back to Ancient Greece

Head back to ancient Greece Anyone who feels they missed out on standing shoulder to shoulder with the ancient Greeks, watching drama in a theatre, may have a chance to live out their dreams this summer.

A classical Greek drama festival, the Epidaurus, is taking place again this year, starting from June 30th, and is world-renowned as a cultural event.

Running until August 5th, the event will feature showings every Friday and Saturday in the ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, a well-preserved relic of the Greek empire.

The Theatre of Epidaurus, which is two hours outside Athens, is a rare sight as it is one of the very few theatres to retain its original circular orchestra.

During the Roman occupation of Greece, most theater orchestras were changed from a circle to a semicircle but Epidaurus escaped intact, which provides a breathtaking atmosphere, both in view and acoustics.

This year's festival will feature performances from the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, Peking Opera School along with many other world artists.
