The Old Runs Are the Best
Greece is famous for its Easter celebrations, from huge solemn processions to loud and colourful festivities, but the town of Arachova goes one step further, matching up the festival with St George's Day on April 23rd.
With 2007 seeing the two occasions in close proximity, the period is one of spectacular fun, starting with an Easter Sunday race by the old men of the town, who set out to display fitness beyond their years in an uphill race, kicking off several days of athletic events and evening parties.
The whole event then culminates with a major parade on St George's day itself to the church of St George, dedicated to the man who became patron saint of the town in addition to his other duties of slaying dragons and upholding Englishness.
Visitors can also enjoy plenty of good food and see a wealth of history across the Delphi region.
