All the Castle's a Stage

All the castle's a stage Those who fancy seeing a bit of theatre in an unusual setting will have a great chance to do so in southern Hungary this summer, as Gyula Castle, the only brick castle still completely intact in Europe, has its courtyard turned into a stage.

Outdoor performances of drama, opera, puppet shows, music (both medieval and modern) take place on a floating stage in the middle of a mini-lake that installed just for the event.

Fun with water is a prominent theme in Gyula that visitors staying in cheap hotels can enjoy, with several open air hot spas at the castle, making this one of Hungary's leading spa resorts.

Gyula also has a number of other interesting old buildings and is also considered a major cultural centre.

Among these buildings is the birthplace of composer Ferenc Erkel, which is now a museum.
