Budapest to Celebrate Jewish Culture
The final Sunday of every August marks the start of Budapest's Jewish summer festival, a celebration of all aspects of the religion.
Beginning on August 27th 2006, the event is now nine years old, having become an integral part of the cultural calendar in Hungary in this time.
The festival is designed to be a treat for all the senses, with a range of gastronomic delights, cantor and orchestral concerts, theatre, dancing and kosher cabaret, tours around historical sites and the old ghettos, craft markets, film and fine art exhibitions and an extensive literary programme.
Encompassing a book and film festival, as well as exhibitions, music and culture from klezmer to opera, this year's event will also include an operatic gala with Hungarian soprano Eva Marton.
Hungarian history is interwoven with Jewish culture and still has an impact on the culture, music and food which modern visitors to Budapest will encounter.
Budapest has become particularly popular with UK holidaymakers in recent years, with travellers attracted to the cheap hotels, bars and clubs to be found in the vibrant city.
