Places of Interest in Budapest

Dohany Utca: This street is home to the world’s largest synagogue, and centre to Jewish life in Budapest. At the rear of the synagogue is a spectacular memorial tree showing the Hungarian families who lost their life in the Holocaust.

Liszt Ferenc Ter: This is the place to do your people watching, while sipping your coffee or something stronger. The street is littered with bars, cafes and restaurants that all attract a cross section of life.

Dinning out in Budapest

For eating out under £10 you could try Café Miro located at 30 Uri Utca. This little cosy café is in the beautiful castle district of Budapest, and is modern and fashionable as well as reasonably priced.

For a slightly bigger budget you could eat for £20 at the Sir Lancelot Restaurant situated at 14 Podmanicky. This place offers medieval fayre served up by buxom wenches in huge portions. All for a good price and great fun at the same time.

Climbing up the dinning ladder why not try for about £30 eating at Rivalda Café and Restaurant at 5-9 Szinhaz Utca. Here you can enjoy classic Hungarian and European dishes as well as sampling one of Budapest’s finest wine.

A Day Out in Budapest

The city of Szeged may be a bit further than most wish to travel for a day out (200km) however those who make the trip are well rewarded.

The city of Szeged is close to the boarders of Romania and Serbia. The city is famed for its fabulous architecture and also for producing Hungary’s favourite salami.

There are regular inter city trains departing from Budapest and the journey takes two hours each way.

Nights out in Budapest

Starting of low key you could try The Kempi Brauhaus at 28 Maros Utca, XII. This is the only authentic Bavarian bar in Budapest, serving Bavarian favourites washed down with their famous beer.

For some live music the Jazz Garden at 44a Veres Palne Utca is a very popular spot. They have local and international jazz artists playing in this famous old cellar.

For those who like staying out late then try out Portside at 7 Dohany Utca VII. This is a very busy little cellar bar/nightclub that can very hot and steamy.

Getting to Budapest from the Airport

Bus
Bus transfers are provided by the airport into the city centre. You can purchase a ticket in the arrivals hall and cost 2,100 Hungarian Forint.

Taxi
There is a taxi rank immediately in front of the arrivals hall, you can expect to pay between 3,500-6,000 Hungarian Forint depending on were your staying.

Car Hire
Most major suppliers have desks in the arrival hall, such as Europcar, Budget, Hertz and local suppliers.
