Discover the Birth of Modern Art in Budapest

Discover the birth of modern art in Budapest Art lovers visiting Budapest in late 2008 and early 2009 will be able to visit an exhibition looking at a movement that is thought to have played a crucial part in the birth of modern art.

The Viennese Secession Society was established in 1897 and consisted of a number of artists – the best known of whom was Gustav Klimt – who opposed the established art politics of the time.

An exhibition arriving at the Budapest Museum of Fine Arts from the Albertina in Vienna this year will look at the work of a number of influential artists in the late 19th century.

As well as marking the beginning of what is now known as modern art, this period also saw European artists begin to forge connections with one another and influence each other's art.

People staying in cheap hotels in Budapest can visit this exhibition from November 6th until February 2009.

The Museum of Fine Arts is one of many cultural institutions that holidaymakers can visit in Budapest, with others including the History Museum and the Ferenc Hopp Museum of East Asian Art.
