Island in the Fun
For a festival with a difference, visitors can enjoy a novel experience in Budapest at the Sziget Festival in August.
Running from August 8th to 15th, the event involves setting up a virtual town in its own right for a week on the island of Obudai in the River Danube, where a whole range of musical genres are explored along with literature and much else, amidst lots of temporary bars, shops and facilities.
Visitors to the festival have the option of camping, but for comfort there are plenty of cheap hotels in the city.
As well as the festival, Budapest offers a wide range of attractions, from the Danube itself to its Roman ruins, plus a wide range of open spaces and attractive old buildings, with the Andrassy district being recognised as a UN world heritage site.
The city is also famous for its thermal baths.
