Plane Crazy
Visitors to Budapest in late August will get to do more than just see a historic capital city, with the skies being filled with some magnificent men in their flying machines.
Of course, some would say they are more mad than magnificent, but the Red Bull Air Race, held over the hills on the edge of the city, sees some of the most skilful pilots around twisting and turning in daredevil fashion high in the sky, as they compete with each other to produce the finest display of speed and artistry.
Special pylons known as sky gates are installed to make for a kind of mid-air slalom course for the pilots to navigate through.
The Red Bull Air Race calendar has the Budapest leg of the tournament series pencilled in for August 20th.
It could make a great centrepiece of a visit to the charming city on the banks of the Danube for those staying in cheap hotels.
