Sail into Budapest

Sail into Budapest Film buffs who fancy a trip east may find the ideal thing for their taste at the 14th Titanic Film Festival in Budapest.

Held from late March to early April (dates to be confirmed), the festival describes itself as 99 per cent film and one per cent Titanic, with the name having far more to do with the sheer size of the festival and its line-up of films than the ill-fated ocean liner.

While this may explain the absence of Kate Winslet from the event, it also explains its scale: according to the organisers, more than 15,000 people turned up last year to see films from 31 countries.

As well as the films, visitors staying in cheap hotels in Budapest have a wide range of things to see and do.

The city has a great variety of architecture, from Roman ruins to attractive churches, fine riverside walking beside the Danube and the only Turkish bath in Europe to cater for women.
