Those who really want to get into the Christmas spirit this winter may find just the thing in Budapest with a series of Christmas concerts in the Lights of Music Christmas Festival, held on various dates (to be confirmed) in St Matthias's Church in Budapest.
The programme for the Christmas season will feature works from greats such as Mozart, Bach and Handel, and is on at the same time as the city's Christmas market.
St Matthias's church has been in existence since the middle ages, with a long musical history and its own choir and orchestra.
It is located in the historic Castle Quarter of Buda, one of the many attractions of the city and a Unesco world heritage site.
Other Unesco sites in the city include the riverbank and Andrassy UT, while the thermal baths, it is claimed, have the only Turkish bath facilities for women in Europe.
The city is well equipped with plenty of accommodation options, including a number of cheap hotels.
