Have an Ice Time
Anyone imagining that artistic talent and culture in Iceland starts and ends with Bjork will be in for a pleasant surprise if they visit the capital city of Reykjavik between May 10th and 26th.
The Reykavik Arts Festival is a celebration of arts and music both in Iceland and around Europe as performers come from far and wide to herald the start of the very long days of summer in style.
According to the festival organisers, the event will include French street theatre, local choirs, art exhibitions, Congolese folk music and a strange event based on the theme of femininity involving a coast guard vessel, jelly, custard and mayonnaise.
Many of the events are free and held in the open air.
Apart from the festival, visitors staying in cheap hotels in Reykavik will have a variety of things to see and do.
The city has an excellent reputation for nightlife, plenty of hot thermal spas and is wonderfully close to nature, with plenty of trips out to sea for a spot of whale watching available.
