Reykjavik to Light Up for Winter
Travellers planning trips to cheap hotels in Reykjavik this winter will be treated to quite a sight as the sky over Iceland is lit up by two phenomena one natural and the other man-made.
Yoko Ono will visit Reykjavik this month to relight the Imagine Peace Tower on Videy Island for its second year.
This 20-metre-high beam of white light will be switched on from October 9th, John Lennon's birthday, to December 8th, the date of his death.
Visitors can see the tower, which is inscribed with the words 'imagine peace' in 24 languages, by catching ferries to Videy Island from Reykjavik's Skarfabakki pier every day at 20:00.
Another impressive sight that visitors to Iceland may witness is the Northern Lights, which can be seen from the country between October and March.
Iceland's close proximity to the North Pole means that the Northern Lights, which is a natural display of multicoloured light in the sky, can be seen on clear evenings when the temperature is below zero degrees Celsius.
