A Corker of a Race
Visitors to Cork who are feeling in good trim can prove themselves such when the city stages its own mini marathon.
The one condition is that the race is being female as this is a ladies race, run over four miles around the city.
Lady visitors staying in cheap hotels in the area who want to take part can do so at 1pm on September 23rd, according to the Cork Athletics website, before or after which they can have a great time exploring this historic and (thankfully for those with sore feet) small city.
The city is a bit on the hilly side, so the days before the race may be best for those taking part rather than watching, but with the river splitting into two to form an island on which the city centre is built, there are plenty of attractive bridges to cross.
Notable buildings in and around the city include Fin Barre's Cathedral, Charles Fort Kinsale and the Blarney Castle, home of the famous Blarney Stone.
