Check out the Bloomsday Book
Literary fans who have read and enjoyed the James Joyce novel Ulysses may be interested to know that the book is connected with a very special day in Dublin - Bloomsday.
This day, June 16th, reflects the date in 1904 when the central character in the story, Leopold Bloom, wandered the city observing the urban life of the day.
Visitors to the city can follow the places depicted in the book, with all sorts of entertainments and commemorations taking place.
Naturally enough, this includes a trip to the pub, where a gorgonzola sandwich and glass of Burgundy in Davy Byrne's pub emulates the way Bloom spent his lunchtime.
Visitors to the Irish capital can also visit the James Joyce Centre, which is dedicated to celebrating and raising awareness of the life and times of one of Ireland's greatest literary figures.
Dublin has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels.
