Dublin Prepares for Horse Show

Dublin prepares for horse show Equestrian enthusiasts are expected to flock to Dublin over the next few days to enjoy a mammoth horse show being held in the Irish capital.

The event, said to be costing a massive €3.6 million to stage, will take place within the 42 acre complex of the Royal Dublin Society and is expected to be popular with tourists.

In all, more than 1.8 million people will attend the five-day Failte Ireland Dublin Horse Show which includes a whole range of activities and entertainment.

As well as the horse show itself, ticket holders will also have access to conferences, trade shows, concerts and exhibitions.

This year, the show is celebrating its 135th anniversary and will welcome 1,400 horses and ponies.

Audiences will be able to enjoy watching 12 international and 35 national jumping competitions, along with 95 showing classes at the event.

Shaun Quinn, chief executive of Failte Ireland which is sponsoring the show, told the Irish Examiner: "Ireland is renowned as a premier equestrian holiday destination whether for trail riding, trekking or cross country."

The event kicks off tomorrow (August 6th).
