Dublin Visitors Get Viking Lessons
People with an interest in the time and culture of the Vikings will be able to expand their knowledge this year as the city of Dublin hosts a season of lectures relating to the Scandinavian civilisation.
Visitors staying in hotels in Dublin will be able to attend the Viking Ship Archaeology lectures at the National Museum of Ireland.
The series will run throughout the first half of 2008, with the first talk given on January 17th.
On February 21st, Anne-Christine Larsen will speak about the connection between Irish and Danish cultures before Tinna Damgard-Sorensen holds a lecture on the Sea Stallion project on March 20th.
The Sea Stallion is the largest Viking ship reconstruction in the world, which set sail for Dublin from Roskilde in Denmark last summer.
People staying in cheap hotels in Dublin will be able to see the Sea Stallion on display at the National Museum of Ireland until the end of June this year, at which time it will sail back to Denmark.
Other lectures being held in Dublin this year will cover topics including the history of the Nordic longship and the archaeology of Irish Viking ships.
