Have a Bally Good Time
Those who enjoy their mountains and fancy meeting a big crowd of like-minded people will find the start of May a good time to head to Ireland, when the Ballyhoura International Walking Festival takes place.
Held in the Galtee Mountains, the event starts on May 4th and runs through to the 7th, with the first day given over to exhibitions and guest speakers on all things mountainous, before visitors get to lace up their boots and enjoy the real thing over the following three days.
The Galty Mountains themselves represent one of Ireland's best upland areas, topped by the 3,016 ft peak of Galtymore.
Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the area can choose from a variety of walks, but need to come fully equipped.
Set in a fairly central part of Ireland, the event can be done on its own or be incorporated into a wider tour, with the peace and beauty of the emerald isle to be enjoyed at leisure, or the fun and partying of Dublin to be reveled in by those fancying a return to the fast lane.
