Make a Drama out of It

Make a drama out of it Those who enjoy a bit of theatre can do so in a beautiful rural setting in Ireland in late April, as the 2007 RTE All Ireland Drama Festival is held in the town of Athlone in County Westmeath.

Starting on April 28th and running until May 6th, the event features amateur theatre groups from all over Ireland competing for the Festival Trophy, offering nine nights of entertainment at the Dean Crowe Hall in the process.

Tickets will be priced at €100 (£66) for the whole festival or €15 for individual nights.

Apart from the theatre, Athlone has both cheap hotels and plenty of attractions for visitors.

These include Athlone Castle, which has been the scene of many turbulent events and battles in Irish history, first built in the 12th century and situated on the banks of the Shannon.

Also in the town is the Clonmacnoise monastic site, one of the earliest of its kind, dating back to the 6th century.
