Most Brits to Head Abroad This Summer

Most Brits to head abroad this summer Most British holidaymakers are heading abroad this year, suggesting that 2010 marks the end of the 'staycation'.

According to research by Lloyds TSB, 35.6 million Brits will be heading abroad this year. One third of holidaymakers chose to buck the stay-at-home trend because of the cold weather the UK had suffered in the past two months.

The study showed that holidaying in Europe was the top trend for this year as over 60 per cent of Brits plan to take a short-haul trip.

This comes as a report from Skyscanner revealed that keen travellers had shown an interest in taking flights to Spain, Turkey and Amsterdam.

However, one in three Brits still plans to take a short break within the UK.

People can book a cheap hotel in Dublin this month for a short break during the St Patrick's festival.

Research from Lloyds was conducted to highlight the importance of getting travel insurance. Nearly 60 per cent of travellers surveyed said that they had not bought insurance despite 8.5 million admitting that they need medical attention on holiday.
