Pat's the Way to Do It
Few saints day's anywhere are celebrated like St Patrick's Day, although the traditions have developed somewhat since the man himself was around in the fifth century, not least in Dublin, where the vibrant capital of Ireland leads the St Patrick's Day festival in March.
The festival itself lasts from March 15th to the 19th, one single day of partying being not nearly enough in what has become the ultimate celebration of all things Irish.
Naturally enough, those visiting Dublin will get plenty of chance to have fun and down a pint or two of the black stuff, but the highlight is the main carnival parade on Saturday 17th, starting at Parnell Square at noon.
Grandstand seats are available for €60 (£40), although spectators can line the streets for free.
Other events include an opening night spectacular on the 15th, featuring music and dance, the huge Ceili Mor outdoor music event in the latter part of Saturday afternoon and the Denny Treasure Hunt on the Sunday.
Dublin has plenty of accommodation for visitors, including cheap hotels, although booking early is wise.
