Planes, Trains and Automobiles Visit Dublin

Planes, trains and automobiles visit Dublin The city of Dublin is currently hosting Planes, Trains and Automobiles, the latest exhibition from the National Photographic Archive.

Images drawn from various collections feature in the exhibition, including a historic photograph of Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic from west to east.

The image was taken in Derry, Northern Ireland in 1932 and shows Earhart standing next to Princess Xenia, her aircraft, shortly after flying the plane from Newfoundland.

Another photograph in this section of the display shows the first flight taking off from Baldonell airport in 1927.

The 'trains' segment of the exhibition features shots of early steam trains, including a photograph taken on Ballydehob Viaduct around 1890.

Another image shows a crash that occurred at Harcourt Street station in Dublin in 1910.

People staying in cheap hotels in Dublin can see the exhibition at the National Photographic Archive, on Meeting House Square, until October 6th.
