Relive the Magic of Gilbert & Sullivan
With such timeless classics as HMS Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado bearing their name, WS Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan are among the most famous and important contributors to opera.
On May 6th, Dublin's National Concert Hall will acknowledge the legacy of this seminal partnership with a show called The Magic of Gilbert and Sullivan.
Opera fans staying in cheap hotels in Dublin can find this performance, which last year played to a sold-out house, in the concert hall's main auditorium.
The evening will include all of the best-known pieces from The Gondoliers, Trial by Jury, Iolanthe, The Yeoman of the Guard and many more.
Music will be provided by the Orchestra of St Cecilia and the Enchiriadas Treis Choir, while the vocal roles will be filled by performers including soprano Ruth Cahill, tenor Frank Beadle and baritone Eugene O'Hagan.
Another highlight of the National Concert Hall's forthcoming programme is a performance on May 2nd by The Musical Suspects, a vocal harmony group that performs a capella arrangements, traditional Irish music and songs by bands including the Beatles and Abba.
