Wex Lyrical

Wex lyrical Ireland is famous for its folk music, harps and flutes, but visitors to the Emerald Isle can also find some rather different styles, not least at the Wexford Opera Festival.

The festival, held from October 19th to November 5th, is to be hosted this year in the Dun Mhuire Theatre and some smaller venues around town while the Theatre Royal is redeveloped, but the performances should be just as interesting and varied.

Among the line up in this years' programme is the Ensamble Nuevo Tango from Spain, performances of Don Gregorio and a variety of lunchtime recitals.

Tickets vary from €10 to €95 (£6.73 to £64) with some free events.

Wexford has plenty of accommodation including some cheap hotels.

The small city is nearly halfway between Dublin and Cork on the east coast, making it an excellent base to enjoy the seaside or explore the mountains of Wicklow to the north and Galty to the west.
