A Grape Place to Be
Tucked away in the foothills of the Alps, the Italian lakes are always a big attraction, but if any extra incentive was needed to visit then the Bardolino Festa dell'Uva (grape festival) running from September 28 to October 2nd is all the wine connoisseur needs.
Set on the banks of Lake Garda, Bardolino is a historic town with plenty of interesting old buildings, some dating back to Roman times, such as the well-preserved Del teatro Romano (Roman amphitheatre) and a number of museums, including, naturally enough, a wine museum, but the festival itself is the biggest attraction.
Offering plenty of accommodation including a number of cheap hotels, the town plays host to around 4,000 festival goers every year, who come to sample the famous red wine grown from the grapes of lakeside vineyards.
Along with the wine, visitors can enjoy food tasting, live classical music and late evening fireworks displays, as well as enjoying the beautiful scenery of Italy's largest lake.
