All Clouds Lead to Rome
Those looking for something a bit different in Rome might be interested to note that the Jewish culture of the city is alive and well, not least, perhaps, because of the dramatic events of 1793.
According to What's on When, that year saw a mob attempting to burn down the Jewish Ghetto in the city, but failing as the sky turned the colour of lead and a huge rainstorm washed out the arsonists' efforts.
Regarded as a miracle, the event became commemorated as Mo'ed di Piombo (literally, Lead) the annual Jewish holiday in the city, which is marked on March 4th with prayers, poetry and, in the evening, the illumination of the temple as the head Rabbi gives a talk about the celebration.
Visitors to Rome will have plenty more history to enjoy as well in the Eternal City.
Key attractions include the Coliseum, the Spanish Steps, the Vatican City and the Pantheon, while the city itself enjoys a mild climate and is just seven miles from the coast.
The city has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
