Christmas Market to Bring Medieval to Life

Christmas market to bring medieval to life Genoa's Christmas market is set to celebrate the season with a difference again this year.

The market, which brings an imaginary medieval Italy to life, takes place in the Piazza Caricamento, in the heart of the city.

Over 100 artisans and craftsmen arrive at the event each year to display their skills to visitors throughout, with cow-milking, cheese making and other activities take place free of charge, Whatsonwhen reports.

Food lovers who visit the market will also have the opportunity to buy local produce, or just enjoy the shows on the central stage.

Entertainments provided for visitors include dancing, choirs and musical performance, while the authentic costumes worn by participants are provided by the Genoese operatic theatre, the Teatro Felice.

Genoa offers a large number of cheap hotels, holiday parks, campsites and youth hostels for travellers, while the city's many museums and galleries [prove popular among visitors.

Local residents also wouldn't be without Pandolce, or Christmas bread, which tourist officials state is "absolutely necessary" for the day itself.
