Culture Among the Canals
Travellers to Venice may be looking for relaxed afternoons and romantic evenings, so the International Theatre Festival may be the perfect chance to soak up some sunshine and culture.
The festival, la Biennale di Venezia, will be the 38th incarnation of this celebration of performing arts.
Taking place between July 21st and 30th, the event will no only be seen in theatres throughout Venice, but also take to the streets, with performances in piazzas and open spaces.
Performances, exhibitions, international meetings and daily events are on display in a variety of historic venues such as the Teatro Goldoni, Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, Casa di Carlo Goldoni and in several newer theatres.
Artists will also be recognised for their dedication and vision in furthering performance art and theatre, the inaugural Golden Lion for Theatre award will be presented.
Although Venice is famous for its mesmerising canals and architecture, the city also offers visitors golden beaches and fine cuisine.
Local specialities will be available in restaurants throughout the summer, for those with a love of seafood, or just a desire to learn more about the local culture.
