Embark on a Pilgrimage in Rome
Visitors to Rome this year will have the opportunity to learn about the history and significance of the pilgrimage between Santiago de Compostela in Spain and the Italian capital.
An exhibition at the Braccio di Carlo Magno between March 13th and April 13th will include itineraries, signs and photographic memories of Europe as a land associated with pilgrimage.
The display, curated by Paolo Caucci von Saucken, also features pictures of the churches, streets and landscapes located on the route from Santiago de Compostela to Rome.
People staying in cheap hotels in Rome can find the Braccio di Carlo Magno at Saint Peter's Square, the famous piazza located directly in front of St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.
At the centre of the piazza stands an Egyptian obelisk of red granite more than 25 metres tall bearing a cross on its top.
It is thought that this monument was created in the 13th century BC and moved to Rome in AD 37 by the emperor Caligula, before eventually being placed in its current location in 1586.
