Florence Hosts 48th International Film Festival

This October, the Italian city of Florence is set to host its 48th international documentary film festival.

Held between November 16th and 22nd, the Festival dei Popoli will offer a range of attractions spanning films, debates and workshops.

A number of experts will also participate, bringing "reflection" and analysis to the issues raised by the films that are to be on offer at the event.

Those staying in cheap hotels throughout the city will be able to take in the festival in a number of locations, as events are scheduled to be held in the Cinema Auditorium Stensen, Cinema Alfieri Atelier and the Istituto Francese di Firenze.

Originally established in 1959, the not-for-profit Festival dei Popoli also works to restore and conserve films that are kept in its archive.

However, it states that is main aim is to organise "one of the most important international documentary festivals in Italy".

Documentary filmmakers that have previously appeared at the event include Ken Loach and Fred Wiseman.
