Get into Modern Art in Venice

Get into modern art in Venice Travellers with an interest in modern art should pay a visit to the Peggy Guggenheim Collection while staying in cheap hotels in Venice over the coming months to see a diverse series of exhibitions.

One display, which will be open until May 17th, features a number of examples of post-war painting and sculpture taken from the Guggenheim collection and other archives from Luca Massimo Barbero.

This exhibition explores variations on the theme of 'the mark' and its various uses as code, alphabet, expression, citation and various other forms of communication.

British artist Jason Martin offers his own interpretation of this concept in a small solo display of what is described as "a vibrant space in which an infinity of pictorial possibilities co-exist".

Visitors to Venice will be able to head to the Guggenheim Collection right up to the end of 2009 to see the Masterpieces of Futurism exhibition, which includes pieces by Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni and other futurist visionaries.

Peggy Guggenheim was a prestigious art collector from a wealthy New York family. Her uncle, Solomon R Guggenheim, has a museum named in his honour in New York City.
