High Fashion in Rome

Holidaymakers staying in cheap hotels in Rome between January 27th and 31st will be caught by the buzz of high fashion as the city hosts its twice-yearly celebration of style and glamour.

The AltaRoma is held every January and June at the Auditorium Parco della Musica and Hadrian's Temple in the Italian capital.

This event includes a number of different events, ranging from traditional fashion events and catwalk shows to more adventurous experiments, where the garment is the centre of the spectacle.

As designers are allowed to let their imagination run free for these shows, they can often evolve into a combination of art and showy entertainment.

For fashion fans, one of the most exciting parts of the AltaRoma programme is the section dedicated to young designers who have been selected by a committee of industry members and fashion experts.

A number of glamorous guest stars are expected to appear at the first of Rome's fashion events in 2008, including Valentino, Franco Moschino and Alberta Ferretti.
