Hop in for Lunch
Visitors to Tuscany in June will be well rewarded for taking a short hop to the small town of Asciano if they like new culinary experiences for the Frog Festival taking place there puts the amphibians at the heart of the menu.
Proving that it's not just France that spawns such dishes, the event, held on the first Saturday of June every year, features plenty of music and dance to accompany the web-footed culinary delights of the town.
Apart from the festival, Asciano offers a wide range of attractions for visitors staying in cheap hotels.
Fine buildings include the 11th century Sant'Agata basilica, while to the south of the town is the benedictine monastery of Monte Oliveto Maggiore.
The area is also blessed with fine hilly scenery and a wide range of vineyards, providing plenty of good wines to wash down all that frog.
