Cheap Hotels in Italy - News
Hot Stuff
For those who fancy winter sports with a difference can find it on the mountain of Sicily, where, high on the slopes of Mount Etna, there is snow in abundance to ski down.
There is more, too. Etna is an active volcano, historically thought of by the Greeks as the realm of Vulcan, the God of fire and still of great interest to vulcanologists today as the highest active volcano in Europe, at 3350 metres (10,990 ft).
Apart from the thrills of hurtling down the slopes wondering whether there might be an avalanche of lava (though it tends to flow at a reassuringly slower speed than most people ski) the island of Sicily has many attractions for visitors staying in its cheap hotels.
Apart from the mild Mediterranean climate down nearer sea level, the island has a rich and colourful history, having been home to numerous peoples and cultures down the ages, from the Romans to the Arabs, Byzantines to Bourbons, with a correspondingly rich variety of architecture and archeology to enjoy.
