Italy Can Be Cheap if Brits 'do Their Research'
Italy "offers Brits value for money" as long as they do their research, a travel expert has said.
Francesca Escery, global sales director of comparison site, Cheapflights.co.uk, said: "As long as Britons do their research and plan ahead, travel to Italy need not be expensive".
According to travelsupermarket.com, British travellers are being more cautious about spending money on holiday. It reported that the average weekly spending money per person dropped from £312 in the last quarter to £295 this quarter.
However, Hotel.info's Confidence Barometer showed that Italian hoteliers are more confident than any other country that 2010 will be a good year for tourism.
Ms Escery also advised people visiting Italy to learn a bit of the language. "Learning a few key words will go a long way you'll find people are friendlier and you won't need to rely solely on your charades skills," she said.
People who book cheap hotels to Venice can practise their Italian while taking a gondola ride through the city's canals.
