Maurice Prendergast Work on Show in Venice

Maurice Prendergast work on show in Venice The Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice is currently hosting a display of work by the American artist Maurice Prendergast.

People staying in cheap hotels in Venice will be able to see Prendergast in Italy until January 3rd 2010.

The exhibition represents the first time that work created by the artist during two trips to Italy has been assembled and shown collectively.

Prendergast first visited the European country between 1898 and 1899, before returning 12 years later in 1911.

He created a series of watercolours, oil paintings, monotypes, photographs and films, 75 of which are on display at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection.

The display is arranged to highlight the role that Prendergast played in the development of modern art in America.

People planning a trip to Venice next year will be able to visit the Peggy Guggenheim Collection as it presents shows on subjects including the concept of utopia and the relationship between figurative and abstract art.
