No Dry Run

No dry run Those who fancy testing themselves with the most gruelling challenge in road racing can do it in the most beautiful urban setting imaginable by taking part in the Venice Marathon.

Held in the famous city on water, the 26 mile, 385 yard course takes competitors past some of the most beautiful architecture in Italy, across grand bridges and over a maze of canals that are the arteries of this unique and intensely romantic city.

The marathon website describes the course as starting by the beautiful mansion of Villa Pisani just out of town in the small village called Stra, from where it crosses rivers, heads through parkland and finally hits the historic streets, where well-padded running shoes will be needed to handle the cobbles.

Finally the race will end at the Riva dei Sette Martiri, having passed so many of the city's finest sights.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels, whether running or watching, can also enjoy the many fine sights of the Grand Canal and St Mark's Square at a more leisurely pace, while those with sore feet may find an easy boat ride along the canals the next day an irresistible prospect.
