Noto Be Missed

Noto be missed Visitors to Italy in May will find themselves in a sea of flowers if they find their way to the town of Noto in Sicily, where the last week in the month (dates to be confirmed) sees the city turned into a floral carpet by local horticultural artists.

For three days the streets are covered in a huge range of flowery sculptures in the manner of a huge mosaic, giving visitors staying in cheap hotels a chance to admire and enjoy their work, set in a street full of beautiful and traditional architecture.

Then, according to the festival website, the Monday sees the whole thing ceremonially trashed by a parade of chickens let loose on the flowers.

Sicily also offers visitors a range of attractions, from wines and olives to sea, sun and sand, plus the chance to visit Mopnt Etna, Europe's tallest and most active volcano.
