On the Rim of the New Year
For those who can't make do with just one day of celebrations for the New Year, the Italian beach resort of Rimini offers three days of fun at Piazzale Fellini on the mild Adriatic coast.
December 30th sees the kids get their turn with the Capodanno dei Bambini, (Children's New Year) followed by two days of music, theatre, art, ice skating and Christmas markets.
If that isn't enough, Rimini offers a wealth of reatuarants, bars and nightclubs, while anyone with enough energy to get around after that can enjoy some historic Roman monuments such as the Arch of Augustus and the ampitheatere, religious sites such as the Franciscan monastery and the ruins of St Gregory's Abbey, or any of the many museums, such as the National Motorcycle Museum.
Rimini, the largest resort on Italy's east coast, has a wealth of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
