Puree Magic

Puree magic Those who enjoy tomatoes will always find plenty to delight them in Italy, where the red fruit is an integral element of its national cuisine.

Never more is this true than when there is a tomato festival on, which is what visitors to Sardinia can look forward to in August (exact dates to be confirmed) if they head for the village of Zeddiani.

The basis of the festival is that locals come together to swap tomato dish recipes, which ultimately come together in one large communal meal.

A gastronomical fair accompanies the event, providing lots of culinary variety.

The village of Zeddiani lies near the town of Oristano on the west coast of the island, which contains many attractive buildings such as the Cathedral of St Mary and the tower of St Columbus.

The area also has miles of attractive coastline and plenty of cheap hotels.
