Putt It in the Diary

Putt it in the diary Visitors to Italy may not readily associate the country with golf, but Milan stages a major event on the PGA European Tour in early May.

Held at the Castello di Tolcinasco course from May 3rd to the 6th, the event boasts a healthy prize fund, with the winner getting $266,000 (£175,000), according to organisers.

As a result, it is little surprise that many star names have joined the line-up for this year's tournament, including US Ryder Cup captain Tom Lehman.

Last year saw a rare Italian win by Francesco Molinari, while other previous winners include familiar names such as Mathias Gronberg, Ian Poulter and Bernhardt Langer.

As well as the golf, visitors staying in cheap hotels in Milan can enjoy wandering round one of Europe's most beautiful and stylish cities, famous for its fashion.

The city boasts Il Duomo, the largest gothic cathedral in the world, as well as a cathedral of football for those who fancy a trip to the San Siro to watch Inter or AC Milan before the end of the football season.

Milan also lies close to Italy's numerous lakes.
