Raise a Glass in Venice

Those who think St Nicholas may be a bit busy in December with having to deliver millions of presents and feed all those flying reindeer should think again, for he still has time to be the patron saint of glass-blowing.

Festa di San Nicolo is celebrated for a week from the second Sunday of December on the island of Murano, just off the coast of Venice, with a highlight being a major boat procession though the island's Gran Canal.

Other events include exhibitions and a flea market organised by children.
