Rome Goes Back to the Ancient World
There are few world cities that have clearer connections with their ancient past than Rome and this year the Italian capital will be delving deep into its heritage.
The Musei Capitolini will be holding an exhibition of porcelain, decoration and archaeologically recovered pieces called From the Ancient World, which people staying in cheap hotels in Rome can visit between March 6th and June 8th.
An interest in ancient Rome was stoked in the 18th century when artefacts recovered from archaeological sites in the city and the excavations of Pompeii and Herculaneum went on public display.
This new exhibition includes porcelain manufactured in Doccia and pieces in biscuit by Giovanni Volpato, which are displayed alongside the original ancient prototypes on which they were based.
Examples of Neapolitan and foreign porcelain will also be on show, along with a selection of paintings, drawings and engravings.
People staying in cheap hotels in Rome this spring can find the exhibition at the Musei Capitolini in the Palazzo Caffarelli.
