Rome is Where the Heart is

Rome is where the heart is Everyone enjoys a birthday party, except perhaps when it's one's own, but visitors to Italy can go further and celebrate that of its most famous city.

Despite its moniker as the eternal city, Rome did of course have a beginning, which according to legend was by Romulus and Remus on April 21st 753 BC, although archaeological evidence suggests the city was inhabited earlier.

Nonetheless, the day is celebrated in the city every year, with a vast sea of burning candles on the Aventine Hill, fireworks displays, parades, street parties and free entry to some museums.

Visitors to Rome will be able to immerse themselves in a wealth of culture and history on the day, but can do so anytime, with the Coliseum, the Spanish Steps and the ancient city walls all testament to the great civilisation that shapes our own culture to this day.

Rome has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
