Rome Pays Tribute to Via Giulia
The city of Rome will be celebrating one of its most famous streets, Via Giulia, throughout this year.
Holidaymakers staying in cheap hotels in Barcelona will be able to join in with the celebrations until February 2009.
A series of events will be held to mark the fact that this year is the 500th anniversary of the establishment of Via Giulia, including conferences on history, art and the social mores of the early 16th century.
There will also be classical music concerts, exhibitions, parades, theatre performances and light shows.
Visitors looking for a comprehensive look at Via Giulia and its landmarks can take part in a guided tour of the area, which will pass sites including Piazza dell'Oro and the Church of Santa Maria dei Senesi.
As well as being a picturesque and attractive area, Via Giulia is also historically important as it was one of the first major urban planning projects of Rome in the time of the Renaissance.
