Rome to Host Sacred Music Festival
The city of Rome will host the seventh edition of the Festival of Sacred Music and Art in October.
Billed as an event that is unique around the world, this festival brings music and culture to the grand papal basilicas of Rome.
People staying in cheap hotels in Rome will be able to experience the first part of this year's festival on October 12th and 13th.
The first evening of music will be based at the Basilica of St John Lateran and the following night will be set at the Basilica of St Paul.
This year's 'orchestra in residence' will be the Vienna Philharmonic, which will recite a number of pieces by two of the most significant composers in the history of classical music – Johann Sebastian Bach and Anton Bruckner.
People planning trips to Rome later in the year may be able to catch the second act in the 2008 Festival of Sacred Music and Art when it is held in November.
The festival was founded in 2002 and is designed to boost awareness of the Foundation of Sacred Music and Art, which raises funds for the restoration of religious buildings and artefacts.
