See Glass in a New Light in Venice
An exhibition is currently open in Venice that will encourage its visitors to look at the everyday material of glass in a whole new light.
Travellers staying in cheap hotels in Venice will be able to see the show, entitled Glasstress, at the Istituto Veneto di Scienze Lettere ed Arti until November 22nd.
Conceived and organised by Adriano Berengo, the exhibition celebrates glass in its full potential as an expressive material.
Several high-profile figures from the world of contemporary art were invited to contribute works for the display, including Josef Albers, Louise Bourgeois and Daniel Buren.
Glasstress is part of the 53rd International Art Exhibition at the 2009 Venice Biennale, which is officially entitled Making Worlds and opened on June 7th.
The exhibition is based at the Arsenale and Giardini venues in Venice, as well as several other locations around the city. Some 4,776 tickets were sold for the first weekend of Making Worlds, marking a record opening for a Biennale art show.
