The Mistletoe and the Italy

As Christmas gets near and seasonal markets vie for attention, one that may particularly attract the eye is the huge market held in the Italian town of Sant'Agata Feltria between Perugia and Bologna in early December (date to be confirmed).

The event offers a number of things people would associate with a great Christmas fair, including a beautiful setting in an historic medieval town, big crowds, a huge range of goods for sale, lots of food, including traditional recipes and nativity scenes.

The town has plenty of interesting buildings, including medieval churches and Teatro Angelo Mariani, which is said to be the oldest theatre in the Marche region and one of the oldest in Italy.

It is also conveniently located close to a range of attractions around northern Italy.

Among these are historic Bologna, the Adriatic coast including the beach resort of Rimini, and the tiny independent republic of San Marino.

The Marche region has plenty of accommodation, including cheap hotels.
